While Homeopathy has been around for 250 years and mainly practised on humans, it is increasingly popular and effective with animals, both domestic pets and farm animals (cows, sheep, alpacas, horses) especially with the growing interest in organics.
The College of Natural Health & Homeopathy (CNHH) in New Zealand (formerly known as Bay of Plenty College of Homeopathy) has been providing formal study in Homeopathy since 1990. In 2001 the College commenced offering a one year Certificate and a four year Diploma in Homeopathy (Animal Health). It was the first of its kind to be approved and accredited by NZQA.
The courses attract veterinarians, farmers, animal behaviourists and vet nurses to name a few professions. Hundreds of farmers around NZ have completed introductory Homeopathy training, assisting both conventional and organic farmers. Here are a couple of graduate stories showcasing how the College is taking animal homeopathy to the world...
Tineke Verkade was named North Island and National Winner of the Rural New Women’s Enterprising Woman of the Year in 2010. Also in 2010, she was awarded the “Cream of the Crop Award” by Federated Farmers for her service to the dairy industry through her business, Homeopathic Farm Support Ltd.
Another graduate of both the human and animal diplomas, Vicki Mathison, has published a book out of Germany titled, ‘Remedy Pictures for Animals’ on the use of Homeopathy for animals and was invited to present at the International Vets Conference in Germany last year. She has now been invited to write a book on Homeopathy for humans. Vicki’s book portrays the homeopathic remedies for animals with delightful cartoons – an entertaining way to learn the remedies.
There has been a growing interest amongst practitioners in the specialised use of homeopathy for animals. Although many of the fundamental principles and techniques of ‘human’ homeopathy apply to animals, there is an expanding base of knowledge that is specific to animals.
